THe story behind 1603
1603 Floral Co. had been living in the back of my mind since 2023 and fully came to life in 2026.
Let’s start from the beginning.
After my sister’s wedding in 2023, I found myself standing in a kitchen full of flowers at 12am, thinking, “I can’t believe this is someone’s job.”
Naturally, I spent what felt like five minutes creating as many arrangements as I could with all the leftover stems. When I finally looked up, the clock read 3am.
I had a brief moment of considering changing my college major from kinesiology to floriculture and fully jumping on the flower train, but that idea got left on the back burner.
Over the next two years, my biology and chemistry notebooks slowly became filled with flower doodles and lists of how I wanted my future business to look instead of notes about protons and atoms. I was studying kinesiology in a setting where my creativity felt pretty much nonexistent, and the urge to lean into my floral dream kept getting harder to ignore.
The Next Step
In the summer of 2025, I decided to take a leap of faith. I left my four-year college and decided to fill my life with all things flowers.
The backyard became a canvas for growing my own blooms. The dining room table became my floral studio. I enrolled in a horticulture program and started working as a floral designer at a local retail shop.
Within just a few months at the shop, I felt like I had absorbed more information about flowers and floral design than I had ever learned about kinesiology during my years of college. For the first time in a while, I felt completely at peace with the direction I was going.
Where the Name 1603 Comes From
My family has been my biggest support system and my loudest cheerleaders through every stage of building this business.
There were plenty of moments when I questioned whether leaving the traditional college path was the right choice, but my family and the friends who feel like family never stopped reminding me to trust myself and the path I had chosen.
1603 comes from the address of my childhood home—a place where my parents fostered all of my siblings’ and I’s dreams and raised us to be confident in ourselves and bold enough to go after them.
They created an atmosphere where showing up for one another and believing in each other is simply the norm. Whether it’s a lacrosse game, college graduation, elementary school talent show, or a floral business dream, my family will show up—and their support will be heard, seen and felt.
Some of the flowers I use in my arrangements are even grown in the backyard of that childhood home - The same place where my original floral dreams began.
So when it came time to choose a name, 1603 just felt right.
